Helping Hands Need Help From Local Volunteers

The Helping Hands Health Clinic has provided much needed assistance to the residents of Todd, Logan and Muhlenberg counties since 2000, but now our help is needed to ensure the clinic maintains the level of aid it currently provides.

The clinic receives approximately $250,000 a year from the Bingo parlor in Guthrie. Those funds help the clinic provide a much-needed service for our community's working uninsured.
Last year, Helping Hands Health Clinic assisted more than 1,850 people in nearly 4,000 visits. The clinic provided prescription medicine assistance that exceeded $2.2 million. The total value of services provided by the clinic to residents of Todd, Logan and Muhlenberg counties exceeds $2.6 million. I issue a plea to the citizens of Todd County to donate your time to assist with Bingo. The Charitable Gaming Commission in Frankfort has ruled that the volunteers must be from Kentucky so volunteers from Tennessee will no longer be able to do the work.
The people of Todd County need to look hard at volunteering to work Bingo because of the amount of funds it generates for the clinic and the impact the clinic has on the community. Bingo dollars are ensuring that working people without health care insurance receive no cost visits to a health provider, get diagnostic testing and receive reduced or no-cost prescription medicines. Bingo also has made it possible for Todd County to have a nice facility for some of our most vulnerable citizens -- our senior citizens. But again, volunteers are needed. Bingo provides much needed revenue to operate that program and facility as well.
The people in Todd County have always responded to a call for help and have taken pride in caring for our citizens. I know you will again. Because Todd Countians care, I am certain volunteers will step up to ensure that Helping Hands and the senior citizen programs continue to help the people who need help.
