Guthrie partners with University of Ky.

The city of Guthrie has partnered with the University of Kentucky to update its comprehensive plan. The county-wide project involving the city of Elkton, and Todd County began in September of 2008. The College of Design, including Dean Michael Speaks (noted for his work with scenario planning) and Clyde Carpenter (Preservation Director) will be spearheading the project with Matthew Colin Bailey. The recent interest in Guthrie by global industries seeking available industrial sites spurred the need for an updated plan which was sought in summer of 2008 by the Guthrie Planning & Zoning Board, the City Council, and Guthrie mayor Scott A. Marshall. The Guthrie Administration's goals are to provide protection for established developements while allowing new commerce, residents, and industry into the city without harming the valuable agricultural and natural resources in the area. The University of Kentucky's College of Design expects the plan to be completed by the end of Summer of 2009.
