The Kentucky New Era has a front page story in today's paper stating that the Todd County sheriff's department has rehired two sheriffs but apparently only through the end of the month.
The money to pay the deputies came from the fiscal court but County Judge-Executive Arthur Green says there will be no more money. Judge Green was quoted saying “Because we have little industry, our tax base is not very large. We can only expend funds we have because we have to have a balanced budget.”
Sheriff Stokes said “I have no idea how I’m going to make it. One idea I know I’m not going to have is to borrow money for it.”

Billy Stokes does not deserve the negative comments he is being subjected to. The man is trying to run a sheriffs Office, not a finanical institution. I bet there is not a soul in Todd Co. that would lay their name on the line to borrow money to pay the staff. That is not his job! That responibility lies with the county/Goverment. Billy, Don't let them get to you. You are an execellent Sherrif and a very down to earth man. You do a great job and I hope you don't stop fighting the good fight.I still say you and cousin should sing together!!
